Vitamins

Why can't your body make vitamins? This is an important question whose answer is easy to comprehend. Since we are unable to synthesise vitamins or can only do so in amounts insufficient to meet our needs, they must be taken from the diet or from some man-made source, hence vitamins are called essential nutrients. Since the body very simply cannot synthesise many of the vitamins it needs, a good multivitamin is crucial. If a vitamin is missing from the diet or is not sufficiently absorbed by an organism, a deficiency disease may develop or the individual may feel lethargic, irritable and not be as mentally sharp. To use a car analogy as an example, bear in mind that you only get one body, but you can always bid on a new car. Think of your body as a well tuned machine, with hundreds of thousands of interlocking parts, teeth and nuts if you will, that all aid each other and work together to efficiently sustain life on a daily basis. This, at least in a small way, is how your body works, but we all know the kinds of hurtful effects that malnutrition, disease and injury can have on a person. When your body lacks the necessary raw ingredients it needs to run properly, a cascading effect occurs that influences every one of your body's systems and causes them to operate less efficiently or even cease functioning altogether. Consuming supplemental vitamins is akin to using sport performance fuel for your car, only many times better and far less expensive. Your body runs more steadily and is able to better avoid breaking down and disease. Your immune system functions better, your thinking clears and your body runs better when it has the important nutrients it needs. Unfortunately a side effect of our diet means that a great number of people every day are lacking the most basic nutrition warranted, let alone finding optimum nutrition levels. There are two groups of essential vitamins, each grouped according to the materials in which they dissolve. Water-soluble vitamins dissolve in water, are not held onto and are extricated regularly in urine. We need a continuous supply of these vitamins. The water-soluble vitamins are Vitamin C and the B-complex vitamin. Water-soluble vitamins are often destroyed or eliminated during food storage or preparing. To decrease vitamin loss, refrigerate fresh fruit, and store grains away from hot light. A, D, E and K, dissolve in fat before they are absorbed in the blood and are retained in the liver. An effective point to note is that we definitely need vitamins, to work effectively and be fit. Our bodies cannot make many of the vitamins that we require on a daily basis. We must find them in our food, and by consuming a multivitamin supplement.
